Do word games like Scrabble help you with spelling?

Definitely!
Not as much as just plain studying spelling words, but knowing Scrabble words can absolutely be helpful in spelling bees. For example, one of my words in the 2016 NSB, cacomixl (or cacomixle or cacomistle) was a word I knew because of Scrabble. I highly recommend becoming involved in both.
